Summer Camp

The Key Biscayne Yacht Club runs an extensive summer camp from early June to mid August for members and non-members from 5-18 years old. Courses and camps provide the opportunity for participants to have fun at our beautiful club, spend time on the water on Biscayne Bay and to develop the skills and confidence necessary to enjoy the sport of sailing. Each camp is designed specifically for different ages and levels of experience and includes Land Sharks, Hobie Explorers, Optimist Beginner & Intermediate Sailing and Teen Sailing. All summer camp attendees MUST be able to swim.

Summer Camp Programs

Windsurfing Summer Camp (Ages 6-18) | 9:00 am-4:00 pm

KBYC is excited to introduce a new windsurfing program specifically designed for kids and teens aged 6-18. Our coaches will guide participants through the exhilarating world of windsurfing, teaching them the basics and beyond. Kids will learn to use a Dagger board and a Dacron sail, as well as proper foot strap placement and harness techniques. This program promises to offer a magical and lifelong adventure in windsurfing.

Land Sharks (Ages 5-10) | 9:30 am-2:20 pm

This program gives the kids access to the amazing resources at the Club. The kids will learn the basics of sailing and fishing onsite. They will play tennis and other sports, swim, craft, decorate baked goods from your Pastry Chef, and participate in some good old-fashioned fun. Lunch is included in this program. Camp attendees MUST be able to swim.

Hobie Explorers (Ages 6-10) | 9:00 am-4:00 pm

This program provides an introduction for the young salts (ages 6-10). The kids get to navigate the mangroves and sandbars while learning about the environment and the sealife of Biscayne Bay. The young salts learn the basics of sailing through fun and play. Kids will learn how to sail in a group on the Club's fleet of Hobie Waves. Lunch is included in this program. Camp attendees MUST be able to swim.

Beginner Opti Sailing (Ages 8-12) | 9:00 am-4:00 pm

New to Sailing? With little or no previous sailing experience, this program gives beginners confidence on the water, learning to sail single handed in one of our fleet of Optimist Dinghies. At the end of the course, parents are invited to watch their child sail the Opti by themselves around an Olympic triangle. Lunch is included. Camp attendees MUST be able to swim.

Intermediate Opti Sailing (Ages 8-13) | 9:00 am-4:00 pm

Sailors (8-13 years old) who have completed Beginner Opti Sailing or equivalent enjoy successfully completing intermediate and avdance instruction in boat handling. Sailors receive introduction to basic sailboat racing, including rules and tactics in Optimist Dinghy. Lunch is included.

Teens Only Summer Sailing (Ages 14-18) | 9:00 am-4:00 pm

For teens (14-18 years old) wishing to learn beginner and intermediate levels of sailing in ILCAs (Lasers). Daily fun sailing, practicing drills, learning racing rules and tactics whilst having fun on Biscayne Bay.

Summer Camp Special Events

Orientation (June 7th at 6:00 pm) – for all participants + one parent or guardian. This event provides an opportunity for participants to meet our Coaches and Camp Counselors. Life jackets and other sailing gear will be available for purchase during orientation.

Sailing Demonstration – on the last Friday afternoon of each session, friends and family are invited to the fuel dock to watch their young Sailors sail an Olympic triangle course. Weather permitting. Unfortunately, there are no rain dates for Sailing Demonstration.

Fourth of July – Sailors, and parents are welcome to celebrate the independence of our great nation at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club. Stay tuned for details!

Cancellation Policy

A Cancellation Fee of $100 will be charged for cancellations received more than one week from the start of the session.
Within one week of the session, a cancellation fee of $100 will be charged and a refund only given if the place can be filled by a waitlisted camper. If the place cannot be filled, no refund will be given.
